In just a few days, the Vienna Medical Doctors' Ball will once again open its doors in the magnificent
Hofburg Palace in Vienna. The traditional event will take place for the 73rd time on Saturday, 25 January 2025 and is once
again a social highlight with a prominent line-up. The ball is already completely sold out, which impressively emphasises
its position as a fixed star in the Viennese ball calendar.
With almost 4,000 ball
guests, the event promises a glamorous night in a unique atmosphere. The guests of honour include well-known personalities
from politics, science and society, including
Peter McDonald, President of the Sports Union and new designated
Chairman of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund,
Katharina Reich, Director General for Public Health in the
Ministry of Health,
Clemens Martin Auer, President of the European Health Forum Gastein, as well as
Barbara
Novak, Member of the Vienna Provincial Parliament, Vienna City Councillor for Health
Peter Hacker,
Ingrid Korosec, President of the Austrian Seniors' Association and
Markus Wölbitsch-Milan,
Chairman of the Vienna ÖVP.
Former top politicians such as former Health Minister
Beate Hartinger-Klein
and
Reinhart Waneck, former State Secretary for Health, have also confirmed their attendance. The Doctors'
Ball thus also combines tradition and topicality in its guest list.
The net proceeds from this year's ball will
go to the
WE&ME Foundation, which is dedicated to research and the fight against
the serious illness ME/CFS. In the entrance hall of the Hofburg, visitors will be informed about the moving fates of those
affected and the important work of the foundation, founded in 2020 by the Ströck family.
The Ströck family's journey
has been profoundly influenced by the effects of ME/CFS and has shaped the nature and purpose of the foundation with unwavering
determination.
A special highlight is the presentation of an impressive photo series by internationally renowned
photographer Brent Stirton. The award-winning artist, known for his work for ‘National Geographic’ and ‘Time Magazine’, took
portraits of ten ME/CFS patients in August 2024. With his impressive images, Stirton captures the challenges that characterise
the lives of those affected. Some of these works will be exhibited exclusively at the Doctors' Ball.
Every
year, the Vienna Doctors' Ball delights with a varied programme, including the midnight interlude this year by the well-known
fusion-funk-swing-jazz band “DelaDap” and the traditional audience quadrille in the ballroom. In total, more than a dozen
bands and combos will provide musical entertainment of the highest calibre.
Once again this year, there will be numerous
donation opportunities on the evening of the ball itself. These include the popular casino for a good cause, where ball guests
can try their luck and do good at the same time, as well as the ‘Who am I?’ raffle.
